Glee Fad Waning?

Glee: The 3D Concert Movie is an unmitigated flop, having opened in sixth place on Friday before disappearing from the Top 10 completely by Saturday. (Its final tally by weekend’s end was an embarrassing $5.7 million, though a small production budget of $10 million means the film could wind up in the black.) Whether this points toward a cooling-off of the pop culture juggernaut known as Glee, however, is another matter altogether. One glance at the TV series’ season finale numbers—which drew a phenomenal 4.8 rating in the adult 18-49 demo—makes it obvious that the appetite for Leah Michele's flip-top head is clearly there.

So what went wrong? Was it bad word of mouth? The film got a CinemaScore of A+ from the mostly non-discriminating audiences who actually showed up. But the movie, which I have not seen, apparently spends a good deal of time focusing on three unknown Gleeks—a “dwarf high school cheerleader,” a misunderstood gay boy, and a girl with Asperger’s syndrome—which sounds more like the setup for a bad joke than a narrative focus for the concert movie of a lifetime. Meanwhile, the show’s stars became loosely drawn ciphers, there to stand and perform for us like exhausted organ grinder monkeys. (And based on how power-mad series dictator Ryan Murphy treated them in the media in recent months, that makes sense.)

What Fox might have forgotten in all this, however, is that the pubescent gleekyboppers who would spend $21 on a ticket for a 3D Glee movie aren't the only demo in the TV show's audience. Many adults watch Glee, and as such were perfectly aware of the humiliating implications of running into an ex-boyfriend, co-worker, or frat brother at the local movieplex as they walked into a theater screening their dirty little secret. So take comfort, Fox—there's gold in them there video on-demand and home-video revenue streams. Never underestimate the profitability in shame.

Glee Shocker Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Chris Colfer Not Returning For Season 4

Glee exec producer Ryan Murphy just told The Hollywood Reporter that not only will Rachel, Finn and Kurt graduate from McKinley High at the end of the upcoming third season, but all three of their portrayers — Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Chris Colfer — are “not going to be back at all for Season 4.”

That’s right, kids. He said At. All.

“You can keep them on the show for six years and people will criticize you for not being realistic,” he added, “or you can be really true to life and say when they started the show they were very clearly sophomores and they should graduate at the end of their senior year.

“We’ve never done anything by the book,” Murphy continued. “We made that decision and I involved Chris and Lea and they thought that was a good idea. They both trust the writing and trust me and felt that it would be great to have an open and closed experience for them to go out while they were on top.”

Glee Cast Apologizes to Lindsay Lohan

Various websites are reporting that the cast of Golden Globe winner Glee apparently apologized to a singer that the TV show gave mean jokes to.

Lindsay Lohan was out for dinner at the Chateau Marmot when she run to the cast of the show (with the exception of Lea Michele and Jane Lynch). The cast went there after the Screen Actors Guild Awards (where they lost to Modern Family).

The cast approached Lohan and apologized to her for making fun of her and her repeated trips to rehab.

Lohan has been previously reported to have been hurt and upset about the episode, which aired last November 16. In that episode, guest Gwyneth Paltrow, whose role is that of a substitute teacher in a Spanish class, asked the students to translate the sentences “Lindsay Lohan is totally crazy, right?” and “How many times has Lindsay Lohan been to rehab?”

Britney Spears to Appear on Glee

Britney Spears will make a cameo appearance on the upcoming "Glee" episode that will be devoted to the pop star's music, the show's creator Ryan Murphy  said Tuesday. "Britney, I think 100 percent, is going to be on the episode. She is going to join us for a couple of scenes," Murphy said in an interview with Ryan Seacrest. Murphy did not say what character Spears would play in the episode, but did mention that Spears' music would play out as fantasy sequences. Some of the "Glee" high school show choir characters will be in the dentist's chair and will hallucinate about being like the singer.

Glee Asks Susan Boyle for a Guest Appearance

Popular and hit show Glee is trying to get a guest appearance by a woman who showed the world how it is to reach for one’s dreams. Meanwhile a member of a popular band asked if his music could be featured in the show.

Susan Boyle, who took the world by surprise after rendering a jaw-dropping performance at the auditions of Britain’s Got Talent last year, was asked to play a high school lunch lady at a Christmas themed episode of Glee in its upcoming second season.

The news came from show creator Ryan Murphy Monday, August 2.

Murphy also said that the music of Sir Paul McCartney would also be featured at an episode of the show. He said that the Beatles member asked him to consider some of his songs for the show.

“I received some fantastic mixed tapes from Paul McCartney a couple of weeks ago. I thought I was being punked!” he said. ”It came out of blue in a package, handwritten, and it had two CDs and it said ‘Hi Ryan, I hope you will consider some of these songs for Glee … I had heard that he is a fan of the show. I was gob-smacked … so of course we are going to do something with him.”

The Television Critics Association handed out their awards Saturday, July 31.

Hit show Glee won three nods including Program of the Year and Outstanding New Program.

Creator Ryan Murphy however said that the greatest achievement of the show is its effect. He shared that he received letters from teachers saying “they can’t cut my program now, because [thanks to Glee] my program now has gone from seven members to forty.”

The winners for Individual Achievements for comedy and drama went to Jane Lynch and Julianna Margulies respectively. Women rarely get nominated in these categories so this year was a record for being the first time that both citations were won by women.

Glee Star Charice Pempengco Gets Botox for Debut

Filipino teenage singer Charice Pempengco  admitted that while preparing for her role on the second season of the hit FOX show ‘Glee,’ she had Botox and an anti-aging procedure, FOXNews reported on July 19. She said she had the procedures done in order to look “fresh” on camera.

The 18-year-old, who’s singing career was launched in part by appearing on several American talk shows, including Ellen DeGeneres’ and Oprah Wifrey’s, underwent a 30-minute Thermage skin-tightening procedure. That procedure, in addition to the Botox, helped make her round face narrower.

Pempengco said during an ABS-CBN television interview that she also had the procedures done because everyone is anticipating how she will look, especially against Rachel Berry. “…of course there is tremendous pressure,” she added.
